Graphic Design as Despectacularization

Graphic design has always been deeply rooted in capitalism and advertising. As such, it is complicit in forming and perpetuating the society of the spectacle: the pervasive model of our contemporary society in which everything is reduced to mere capitalistic representations.

This project re-imagines graphic design outside of its commodified and spectacular reality, by appropriating the tactics of the Situationist International, an avant-garde 20th century art movement devoted to the disruption of the spectacle. Central to this project is the construction of graphic design situations; subversive and ephemeral encounters in urban space designed to critically transform our everyday lives.
