Chaos in Power

Donya Aref

The practice of graphic design is, at its core, an act of communication; of transmitting ideas and shaping our view of the world. As such it is inextricably linked to institutions of power and the dominant ideologies of a time and place.

This project is a series of collages using imagery from the 1953 coup d’etat, carried out against the democratically elected government of Iran by Britain and the United States. The intention is to communicate the chaos and ensuing anger felt by many Iranians towards Western imperialism which continues to shape the often fraught relationship between Iran and the West today.
