Instead of the Other Way Around?
Can everyday objects adapt to us, instead of the other way around?
Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes of disabilities amongst older adults. This degenerative joint disease
threatens their independence as it limits mobility and their ability to perform basic activities. Studies have shown that these restrictions lead to social isolation and result in depressive symptoms by impairing their basic motor functions.
This project explores different methods of support for older adults living with osteoarthritis. By designing a variety of everyday objects that are both adaptive and reflective of the different stages of osteoarthritis, I hope to increase individual independence and reduce the impact from social isolation.
