Can a smell bring you back to your childhood?

As the aging population grows, the number of Canadians living with dementia is rising tremendously. This project aims to focus on the use of scent as a memory aid for individuals with dementia. This, in turn, can foster a safe and enjoyable experience within senior care facilities where families can bond and strengthen their relationships.

ReminiScent bridges the gap between two very powerful methodologies; counselling and aroma therapy. Through the use of smells which are very intimate to a patient, this process can help them indulge in precious childhood memories. Family members will have opportunities to reconnect and share meaningful memories based on the smells and dialogues created between the patient and therapist.
